How do you find the interests of a special needs child?

I know not everyone has to be involved or has ever met a special needs child but for those that know a family member or a friend or friend of a friend there comes a time when you need to learn those interest. Just for your own curiosity or knowledge. My sister who is the eldest has special needs and I often find myself watching her and wanting to know what she is thinking or what does she desire but with her multiple handicaps it isn't easy to try and determine what she needs at the time other than the basic life necessities such as food, clothing, shelter, grooming and such things of the sort. So how do you find those needs?

Determining the needs of a person who has a handicap could be a difficult process...Personally speaking I have a nephew who has Cerebral Palsy, and determining his needs aren't that difficult. He usually points out what he needs, etc... and we manage it from there.

Im pretty sure, there are facilities that harbor those types of questions, and im definitely sure that your current doctor can point you down the right road.

I think LOVE and Patience also go a along way...Im not the most patient of people, but dealing with folks who have these issues, can really put a perspective on what, and who really matters the most to us.

God Bless.

Lourdes! I am so proud of you! I agree with JimmyP LOVE AND PATIENCE go a long way. In my interactions with your sister I can always sense that she feels the love.
